Northern Glow Midwifery LLC provides relational, family centered midwifery care by a Licensed Midwife in Traverse City and surrounding Northern Michigan.
When you choose Northern Glow Midwifery, you're not simply hiring someone to attend your birth. You're receiving personalized care throughout pregnancy, birth, postpartum, breastfeeding, and newborn care from a provider who will truly know you and your family.
During your pregnancy, you will actively participate in 12-14 prenatal visits (or more if needed). You and your baby will be monitored during each visit, and we will have plenty of time to discuss all your questions. You will also have email, text, and mobile phone access to your midwife 24/7 for questions and emergencies. Labs and blood tests are drawn by me at my office when needed.
When you go into labor and are ready to have your midwife come to your home, I will come with my team: another licensed midwife and an assistant certified in Neonatal Resuscitation. We provide a birth tub if you desire to labor or birth in the water. We will set up our supplies: supplies to monitor your birth and baby as well as emergency equipment. We also bring our patient hands and loving support. Occasionally, transfer to hospital is needed to ensure safety of you and your baby. In this situation, your midwife will accompany you and stay by your side to support you and answer questions, as well as advocate for your birth desires.
We stay at your home for a few hours after the birth to monitor you and your baby. During this time we clean up any messes. We will keep a close eye on you and your baby.
24 hours after your baby is born, I will come back to your home to provide newborn screening and assessment of both you and your baby. I will also return for a three-day visit; a one-week visit; a three-week visit; and a six-week visit. More visits are included in your price if needed. Postpartum care includes breastfeeding support.
Families are often surprised to learn that comprehensive homebirth care typically costs less than many hospital births, even though it includes months of prenatal care, continuous labor support, postpartum visits in your home, newborn care, and breastfeeding support.

Full birth support and monitoring, including supporting you in hospital if transfer is needed

From your first prenatal appointment through six weeks postpartum, you'll receive comprehensive care from a Licensed Midwife, Registered Nurse, and Certified Lactation Specialist. Your birth is attended by a team that includes a second Licensed Midwife and, whenever possible, a third assistant trained in Neonatal Resuscitation.
This price of $6500 is a discount if paid in full before your birth. Insurance companies don’t typically cover the care of a home birth. YOU CAN USE AN HSA or FSA TO PAY FOR YOUR CARE. You can attempt to get reimbursement from insurance company, but I do not bill insurance. Your consultation appointment is free and you can ask any questions you may have about care and pricing.
