Why Families Choose Northern Glow Midwifery

Choosing a midwife is one of the most personal decisions you'll make during pregnancy.

Every midwife brings their own experience, philosophy, and approach to care. My goal isn't to convince you that I'm the right midwife for everyone. Instead, I want to help you understand what makes care at Northern Glow Midwifery unique so you can decide whether it feels like the right fit for you.

You Get One Primary Midwife

One of the things families appreciate most about Northern Glow Midwifery is continuity of care.

Throughout your pregnancy, you'll build a relationship with me, Kristen. I'll get to know you, your family, your goals, your concerns, and your unique story. By the time labor begins, we won't be strangers meeting for the first time. We'll already know and trust one another.

Many families tell me this relationship is one of the most meaningful parts of their experience.

Midwife and Registered Nurse

I bring together two worlds that are often seen as separate: the relationship-centered approach of midwifery and more than two decades of experience as a registered nurse.

As a Licensed Midwife (LM), Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), Registered Nurse (RN), and Certified Lactation Specialist (CLS), I have dedicated my career to caring for women, babies, and families.

I deeply trust the normal physiology of pregnancy and birth. I also understand how to recognize when something is no longer normal and requires additional support or collaboration.

Many families find comfort in knowing they don't have to choose between personalized care and clinical experience.

Longer Appointments, Real Conversations

Pregnancy often brings more questions than can fit into a 10-minute appointment.

At Northern Glow Midwifery, appointments are intentionally designed to allow time for conversation, education, and relationship building. You'll have space to ask questions, discuss options, and explore what feels right for your family.

My goal is not simply to check boxes. My goal is to help you feel informed, confident, and to meet your individual needs.

Evidence-Based Care and Informed Decision Making

I believe you deserve accurate information, thoughtful guidance, and the freedom to make decisions that align with your values.

During your care, we'll discuss the benefits, risks, and alternatives of testing, procedures, and treatment options. Rather than using pressure or fear, I strive to provide information in a way that helps you make decisions confidently.

You are the expert on your life and your family. My role is to provide education, experience, and support.

Breastfeeding and Newborn Support Included

Birth is only the beginning.

As a Certified Lactation Specialist, I provide breastfeeding support throughout pregnancy and postpartum. Whether feeding comes easily or presents challenges, you'll have access to guidance from someone who already knows you and your baby.

I also provide newborn care during the postpartum period, helping families navigate those early weeks with confidence.

Care That Honors the Whole Family

Pregnancy and birth affect more than just the birthing person.

Partners, children, and support people all play an important role in the journey. I strive to create an environment where everyone feels welcomed, respected, and included.

Whether this is your first baby or your fifth, my goal is to help your family feel seen, heard, and supported.

A Balance of Warmth and Professionalism

Families often tell me they chose Northern Glow because they wanted both a deeply personal relationship and a provider with substantial healthcare experience.

I believe you deserve both.

You deserve a provider who takes time to know you, who respects your choices, who trusts birth, and who brings years of experience caring for women and babies.
